Lennea “Linny” Bower, MA, CPDT-KA (Owner/Trainer)

Lennea grew up in a multi-species household that included both dogs and cats. She started volunteering in animal shelters in 2004, while attending American University. Since then, she has worked and volunteered in shelters in metro-DC, Massachusetts, and Costa Rica. It was while working for the MSPCA in Springfield, MA that she became interested in positive training, earning an AKC Canine Good Citizen certification with Bailey (the Best Dog). Later, Nefertiti (the Fearless One) made her realize that not only could the positive techniques that were so effective with dogs be extended to cats (and other animals), they needed to be if everyone was going to keep their sanity. The concept behind Next Best Pet was born.

Lennea began teaching group classes at a local shelter in 2010, and opened Next Best Pet in 2013. She currently teaches group classes at the Animal Resource Foundation in Chester, MD, and offers private training in Prince George’s and Queen Anne’s counties in Maryland and the surrounding area. She has previously presented on topics including multi-species households and adopting a new dog. She has also worked with animal shelter staff and volunteers behavior and training topics.

Lennea has a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Spanish Studies and a master’s degree is Psychology both from American University. Her master’s thesis was titled “Sympathetic Magical Thinking in Decision Making: Differences for Animate and Inanimate Targets.” She is fluent in Spanish.
